Supergirl Season 3 “Make it Reign” Recap

It is the penultimate episode of Supergirl’s third season and we learn of Selena’s plan for the Worldkiller’s and Earth. But first Selena has arrive in National City with two other Dark Kryptonians. The three start to perform a ceremony to resurrect Reign but when one of the Dark Kryptonians tried to touch the black rock, it burns in her hands. Alas, the rock is toxic to them but not to Colville who is more than willing to serve the three women.

Back on Argo, Alura, Kara, Mon-el and Thara head to Selena’s home looking for clues and find an instruction manual on how to make a Worldkiller. They also find a holo crystal where they speak to Selena who details how she had to hide her real self for 20 years and blames Alura for all that ails them. Selena reveals that they plan on using Reign to terraform the Earth to create a new Krypton. Soon after, Selena sets off a bomb injuring Thara.

Kara knows she must warn her friends back on Earth but Alura tells her daughter that the dome prevents any communications off the planet and there is no ships on Argo. However, Alura mentions there is a portal that Kara’s father was working on to escape off of Krypton but it isn’t working. Soon enough Kara et al head to her father’s lab to fix the portal. They also find a way to warn the DEO about the Dark Kryptonians by using a holo crystal that allows Kara to use her mom’s AI to communicate with Winn and Alex what is about to happen. It is here seeing Erica Durance channel Melissa Benoist’s Kara that gave me some serious Lois Lane vibes from just the way she was delivering her dialogue.

While Winn and Mon-el work on the portal, which will be a one-way trip, the three Dark Kryptonians realize they need to blood of Purity and Pestilience to fully resurrect Reign and they head straight to the DEO. Also at the DEO is Sam who has sought Alex and Lena’s help in curing her of Reign. Unfortunately, nothing seems to work as the Reign cells in Sam is overpowering Sam’s cells. Lena vows to find something to help.

At the DEO, the Dark Kryptonians have arrived and Winn uses his personal shield belt to help take the blows of one of the Kryptonians. Alex orders fellow DEO agent Demos’ to grab the blood and destroy it as the Selena gives chase. Another Dark Kryptonian senses Sam but Ruby’s quick thinking shields them from her prying eyes by using a shield that can harm Kryptonians.

With Winn down for the count, the portal cannot be activated so Kara decides to use her mom’s AI to lure Vita to turn on the portal. Mon-el emerges back at the DEO followed by Kara and then Alura who decides to join her daughter. Kryptonsite noted that Erica Durance wearing a super suit is more than what Tom Welling wore in 10 seasons of Smallville.

It then becomes a showdown between Kara, Alura and Mon-el versus the Dark Kryptonians. Demos tosses the Worldkiller’s blood to Kara but the Dark Kryptonians use their heat vision to kill Demos despite him using his shield belt. We later see Winn blame himself over his death and his purpose at the DEO.

Kara then tosses the blood to Selena but uses her heat vision to destroy the blood.

With this small victory, Kara introduces her mom to Alex. And Alura tells the group how there is a fountain out there that can perhaps strengthen Sam and weaken Reign but this involves Sam going to the Dark Valley. Sam wants to do this despite everyone’s concern.

But they have to hurry up because Selena uses her blood that had some of the Worldkiller’s blood to fully resurrect Reign who uses a Kryptonian sword to enter the fountain and into the Earth’s core to start the terraforming. This event stops the Reach ceremony that M’yrnn was performing with J’onn so they can join the fight to stop Reign and the Dark Kryptonians.

And next week is the season finale. I do fear that Alura is going to die in the season finale. It seems to be another lesson or loss that Kara needs to suffer. I really don’t want that to happen as I love Erica Durance and just want the opportunity to have her come back if need be. Durance has been really great these past three episodes. Also, I hope that Kara and Mon-el get back together and he stays on the show for season 4. It seems this episode might be setting that up.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Final Season Is Shaping Up To Be Absolutely Bonkers

HBO

The eighth and final season of Game Of Thrones has long been guaranteed to be an epic event, but now it seems as though it may feature things we’ve never seen before on television … and maybe even in the movies. And despite the fact that the show has always established itself as a once-in-a-lifetime pop cultural phenomenon, that doesn’t mean they’re about to rest on their laurels.

Yes, we know there are only going to be six episodes — but those episodes are reportedly longer than 90 minutes each, and some of those episodes are going to feature the biggest battle scenes we’ve ever seen.

According to Watchers on the Wall (the go-to blog for all things Game of Thrones), the cast and crew of the HBO fantasy epic just wrapped a 55 consecutive night shoot of what’s reportedly a massive battle. That length — almost two months –is more than double the amount of time it took to film their previous large-scale action scenes such as “Hardhome”, “Battle of the Bastards” and “Beyond the Wall”.

Jonathan Quinlan, an assistant director on Thrones posted a thank you note to the cast and crew on Instagram, claiming that what they’ve done will result in something “that’s never been done before.” Sure, that may be setting the bar a little high, bu

via Watchers on the Wall:

The note cites “the cold, the snow, the rain, the mud, the sheep shit of Toome”, in reference to the Winterfell set in Moneyglass, Toome; as well as “the winds of Magheramorne.” In the caption below the photo, Quinlan helpfully added: “Says it all. 55 consecutive nights. 11 weeks. 3 locations. You’ll never again see anything like it.”

These two and a half months of shooting more than double the previous record for a Game of Thrones battle shoot—which likely already was a TV record, as well. Unless the upcoming King’s Landing shoot dethrones it, which seems unlikely, this battle of Winterfell will be the biggest, most expensive action scene we’ve ever seen on TV. Of course, shooting time doesn’t necessarily translate to screen time, so this may or may not be the longest battle in the show, but it will certainly be the most elaborate.

As for the “3 locations” Quinlan makes reference to, aside from the obvious Moneyglass and Magheramorne (specified by the producers’ note and reported on by us for months), the mystery location could be Saintfield, in which we know they filmed but little else.

What could possibly take 55 days to shoot? Well, likely the final battle (or battles) of the show: the living versus the dead, the light versus the dark, the fire versus the ice. Honestly, I’m getting a semi just thinking about it. Let’s more on.

Quinlan has since deleted the original photo from his Instagram (you know someone higher up didn’t like that leak, if just a minor one).

The Death Totem takes control of Sara, unleashing Mallus to control her, forcing the Legends to find a way to stop her. An episode with a great balance of action, comedy, and drama with certain characters.

Spoilers Ahead

The Death Totem calls to Sara and tempted her with using it. With a part of Mallus already inside Sara, trapping her consciousness inside his realm. He’s able to take control her and manipulate the other Legends, by becoming the thing that makes the Legends vulnerable.

But before that, we get a sweet scene with Ava and Sara, together in bed. The progression of both characters from despising one another, to having some tension between them, to being in a relationship, happened rather quickly, but the writing of it never felt forced; it felt natural. Of course, she has to go back to work and when she checks in she see’s that something is not right with Sara, so she takes Gary to meet Constantine where we get the funniest scenes.

We get some awkwardness as we learn that Constantine also slept with Sara and there’s almost like a love triangle of some sorts, but it’s funny and doesn’t take itself too seriously. Surprisingly, its the bumbling agent Gary, who helps Constantine and Ava find Sara on the ship by retelling his D&D quest. Nerds can save the day.

Back on the ship, the Legends are trapped in the Medbay where Ray is unconscious and healing. Ray tried to rebuild the Fire Totem and was successful but Mallus controlling Sara, beat him to a bloody pulp leaving him inactive for most of the episode. So who better than a speedster to go in and knock her out? Wally goes and looks for her but finds Jessie Quick instead. Wally starts to break down but tells her that he’s better and he grew as a person because she broke up with him, which is great for Wally to see his arc play out with the Legends. Of course, it isn’t really Jessie and is Mallus projecting Wally’s vulnerability and gives enough time to use the anti-speed gun and knock him out for the rest of the episode.

Then it’s Zari’s turn. She goes to the ship’s engines and sees her younger brother who was killed. Breaking down, she resists only to also have been knocked out. Then it’s Nates turn; he goes looking for the Earth Totem since only a totem can defeat a totem. But as he grabs it he see’s his grandfather; Nate starts to break down and gets beaten to a bloody pulp until Constantine, Ava, and Gary arrive.

Meanwhile, Mick who’s been grumpier this episode than most, is given a pep talk by Zari that’s his hero and he has it in him all along, and who better to wield the Fire Totem than Heatwave? He stops Mallus and here we learn a very important thing, each member of the Legends are meant to be Totem Bearers to defeat Mallus. And Sara is meant to wield the Death Totem, but first, she has to learn to control it.

There are some episodes this season where time traveling isn’t entirely important to progress the story and characters. They manage to create a great balance with characters, even the ones sidelined. Each character fits the story of the episode and I would also like to point out that it’s nice seeing Ava be almost like an honorary member of the team. Although that doesn’t last long as we get a heartbreaking breakup between her and Sara. But on the bright side, Constantine is coming back and trouble is just getting started
